TAP Volunteer Opportunities - Get Involved!

TAP is an all-volunteer organization, so you know that, when you volunteer your time and energy, you really are making a difference and helping TAP grow by getting its message out. Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below. If any of these are of interest to you, please e-mail us at info(at)teachersagainstprejudice.org indicating which position you are interested in, why you are interested in this opportunity, and how we can contact you. We will then follow-up with you. It's that easy! In this hectic world of ours, we know that there are many important uses for your time—we thank you for choosing to work with TAPand promise that you will see your effort put to good use for many teachers, parents and students throughout the world.

Essay Contest Readers
Each year we get hundreds of essays from around the globe. In the fall we open our Annual Essay in Media Contest. From October through December, we compile these essays and get ready to read. Judging takes place starting in January. What are the requirements for this opportunity? You must be a TAP member and have a demonstrated commitment to fighting prejudice and discrimination and to supporting peer education. You also must have the time and the ability to read essays—and to "work well with others" as this is a collaborative effort. We are honored that so many young people share their thoughts, feelings, and creativity with us. We look forward to continuing to share their "teaching tools" with others.

Art Contest Judges
Each year we get student art work from around the globe. In the summer we open our Annual Elementary School Art Contest and collect digital images of the art entries. Judging takes place from October to December. What are the requirements for this opportunity? You must be a TAP member and have a demonstrated commitment to fighting prejudice and discrimination and to supporting peer education. You also must have the time and the ability to look at children's pictures—and to "work well with others" as this is a collaborative effort. You must have an appreciation for visual creativity and messages conveyed through pictures.

The Art Contest

This contest was open to all students in elementary grades one through four, including students from private and public schools as well as home-schooled students.

Theme: Cooperation and Understanding

Students learn and internalize stereotypes at a very young age; as a teacher, counselor, or parent you can help open minds and hearts. Please use the theme "Cooperation and Understanding" to foster empathy and appreciation of one another. We look forward to seeing how your students and children visualize this timely, relevant theme.

As our world becomes smaller and we meet people from all different kinds of cultures, it is very important to learn to understand and appreciate each other. If we can learn to work together rather than fight or distrust each other, our world could become a better place to live.

Draw a picture of you and your friends from other cultures showing how well you can work or play together in or outside of school.
